On location in Vienna, Austria 🧳

Happy Thursday Hidden Gem Travel community! As mentioned last week, I’m currently in Austria scoping out the Christmas markets, top tourist sights, and holiday festivities. I’ll be writing a full trip review once I’m home, so this week is a preview to whet your appetite.

Read on for the short scoop about Austria in December. Follow along the Hidden Gem Travel Facebook and Instagram pages for some live pics from Austria and Germany (links below)…

Stunning Vienna

My first two days in Vienna are packed to maximize my time. Day one will include a hotel inspection of Hotel Imperial (a gorgeous, award-winning hotel with fantastic service) and a meeting with my travel partners that specialize in Austria.

I’m also squeezing in a tour of the historic Spanish Riding School (dates to 1565) which is a bucket list experience for me since I love horses. I’ll also be treating myself to a yummy, iconic Sacher Torte and Viennese coffee experience.

For day two, I’ve arranged a private tour of majestic Belvedere Palace and many of the festive Christmas markets dotted around the city. Finally, I’ll be embarking on the river cruise which will serve as my floating hotel for the next week.

💎Hidden Gem Tip: My partners in Austria have access to some pretty awesome experiences that you can’t book yourself.

Vienna is Special

Vienna is an iconic European city brimming with cultural experiences. Classical music, dance, theater, art, wine, and culinary experiences top the list.

When you feel the urge to get out of the city even in winter, it’s easy to experience nature and be active. Vienna is situated on the western edge of the Vienna Basin, on the gentle slopes of the Vienna Woods, a branch of the foothills of the Alps. This “Green Lung” is part of the (legally protected) green belt. In 2005, the Vienna Woods was designated a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO.

Up Next…

After Vienna, I’ll be exploring towns and cities along the Danube River. First, Austria’s charming Salzburg and Wachau Valley then into Germany’s scenic Passau, Regensburg, Nuremberg, and Munich. In addition to the Christmas markets, I have some special experiences planned along the way. Stay tuned on social – links below…
