Happy Thursday Hidden Gem Travel community! I’ve been up to my ears with planning Summer 2022 international trips for clients who are more than ready to get back out into the world. As you’ve likely heard in the news, demand is high and so are prices and expected crowds for the most popular summer destinations.
PSA – if you still haven’t booked your December/New Year’s week beach trip, I met virtually with an amazing resort in the Cabo area of Mexico that still has availability. It’s off the beaten path and a new resort which is why it’s not sold out. It’s a gorgeous property, so email me to get the details!
I’m excited to switch gears this week and offer you travel inspiration direct from Peru. If you’re looking for a special vacation that’s away from the crowds, Peru is worth your consideration. The fastest direct flight from NYC to Lima is 7.5 hours so it’s similar to flying to Europe.
If your interest is peaked about Peru, read on for the scoop!

Where is Peru?
Peru is in the western part of South America and shares borders with Ecuador, Colombia, Brazil, Bolivia, and Chile.
Its territory covers more than 1.2 million square kilometers and is composed of three regions: the coast, highlands, and jungle. The current population exceeds 31.5 million inhabitants.
Peru is not just Machu Picchu

Families, including multi-generations, have incredible experiences in Peru.
For example, you can enjoy a family “Scavenger” Treasure Hunt which is fun for all ages. The scavenger hunt will take you through ancient Inca palaces, water channels, Inca terraces, and astonishing mountain scenery. Get ready to run, chase and find the clues that will finally lead you to the hidden treasure.
Get connected to the locals through a meeting with the Amazon women of Chasuta. Chasuta is an Amazon village where women organize themselves in small associations and build community businesses. Visit these initiatives and meet the women involved. It’s a unique experience and so memorable for everyone.
You can also take a whale-watching cruise! You’ll see sea lions, sea birds, and maybe penguins.

Culinary Treats
Foodies who crave fantastic food and unique experiences can spend time in the Valley of Volcanoes and have dinner with a local family on their farm. The stunning scenery with three gorgeous lakes and local agriculture is a beautiful area to explore and dine.
Alternatively, local chefs offer cooking classes in their homes or restaurants. Take part in a ‘pachamanca’ where the food is cooked underground with hot stones. Or how about a chocolate or cocktail-making workshop? You can also tour local distilleries with the owners. There are many ways to experience the Peruvian gastronomy scene.
