Happy Friday Hidden Gem Travel community! I’m a day late in your inbox this week due to my virtual travel event on Wednesday night. It was a big success and anyone who couldn’t join us, I’m happy to send you the recording. Many thanks to my partners at Kensington Tours, NIC+ZOE, and Tidy Nest!
With all the winter weather across much of the country, we’re all dreaming of vacation and wondering where we can go this summer and fall. Right now, the USA is on many minds (including my clients), so I thought it timely to share some of the best USA vacations for your consideration. Of course, these ideas are just the tip of the iceberg. Get out your calendar – you’re going to be ready to plan (with me of course)! Read on for the scoop…

Everyone’s Thinking Hawaii
I’ve been very busy planning Hawaiian vacations! Luckily, I’ve been to Hawaii, have contacts there, and completed the Hawaii Tourism Specialist certification to update myself on all things Hawaiian Islands.
Which islands to choose is always the big question. Right now, it depends on the ever-changing pandemic-related protocols. In “normal” times, if you crave a serene experience, I’d steer you towards Kauai or Lanai. If you want a buzz of activity, Oahu and Maui are a better match. If you only want to experience one island on your trip, Hawaii, AKA the Big Island, is remarkably diverse with different regions to explore, including the Kona resort and golf area, Paniolo (cowboy) area, otherworldliness Volcanoes National Park, and stunning Waimea Canyon, dubbed the “Grand Canyon of the Pacific.” Can’t decide? You can see all the islands in one trip on a cruise – traditional cruise ship, small, guided tours, or yacht charter options are available. There are many options for when we are fully reopened.
Bottom line – it’s extra helpful to work with a travel advisor who knows the options.

Head Out West
Vacations out west are on many people’s minds for this summer and availability is going fast! Popular right now are RV vacations, national park itineraries, and ranch vacations. I’ve covered all these vacation types in previous newsletters, and Montana’s Glacier National Park most recently. Brush Creek Ranch in Wyoming (pictured) is a 5-star ranch experience that will delight all ages! You may see me there 😊
Western USA Tips:
- Get off the beaten path. Every national park has hidden gems that you don’t want to miss!
- Consider a guided tour from a high-quality company to maximize your experience, transport your gear, and avoid the crowds. Private and small group trips are available, and I can recommend the right company for you.
- End your trip with a stay at a full-service resort or ranch which will offer a balance of fun activities and some well-deserved R&R.
- Use a travel advisor like me to help you with your itinerary!
Hidden Gem Tip: RV rentals sold out last summer for DIY planners! I work with industry providers who can help you with your trip for this summer before these sought-after vehicles are gone.

Northeastern Treasures
The northeastern coastline in summer and fall is magic! Summer tends to be very crowded with high rates, but it’s a wonderful vacation. I spent time in Maine and Rhode Island over the past two summers and plan to be back this year. There are many levels and types of accommodations for these trips. I work with small boutique hotels and iconic resorts. Cliff House Maine is one of my favorites, and my clients get Virtuoso amenities!
If you think the mountains may be calling you, I highly recommend the Berkshires in Massachusetts. I spent an extended Labor Day weekend there last summer and toured historic, boutique hotels. My best experience was my spa day at the new Miraval! I’m going back and you should put it on your list – contact me for VIP perks there 😊. The pool area is gorgeous, and there are a ton of activities!! You will leave rested and recharged. It’s a perfect couples or girlfriends or sister/mother/daughter getaway.

Embrace the South
South Carolina is hot – literally and figuratively! In the Virtuoso network, there are the very best options for your vacation. Downtown Charleston, Kiawah, Hilton Head – there are so many places to consider!
Montage Palmetto Bluff offers a gracious and serene Lowcountry escape set along the beautiful May River. Varied guest accommodations, eight dining experiences, and three pool venues. This is a sporting paradise with golf, tennis, boating, biking, kayaking, fishing, sporting clays, equestrian activities, and more. After your outdoor activities, rejuvenate in the world-class Spa Montage. There is something for everyone, and my clients receive valuable perks like a daily breakfast and resort credits.

Off the Beaten Path
Did you know that Alaska is open for travel by land or small boat this summer? Incredible itineraries await you! Chicagoland is full of fun in the summer and through Labor Day the immersive Van Gogh exhibit is a must-see. The Pacific Northwest offers landscapes and experiences that will wow the entire family. If New Mexico intrigues you, there are some incredible experiences around the state like a stay at the Ted Turner Reserve. I will help you avoid crowds, find the best places to stay, and create an itinerary that speaks to you.
