Happy Thursday Hidden Gem Travel community from amazing Egypt! Yes, I’ve pre-written this newsletter since I try to stay present when I travel, as much as possible. I’ll be writing up a trip report (with my own photos) once I’m back, but for now I thought a peek into what I’m doing would be fun to share, especially for those of you who have Egypt on your travel bucket list.

I’m traveling with a small group and an Egyptologist so this trip will be well managed AND highly educational. On my last day, I’ll be visiting the best hotels in Cairo which will allow me to match clients to the right place to stay.

I’m Excited About This!
In last week’s newsletter, I wrote about taking special photos especially when the lighting is ideal – often at sunset. On this trip, I’m particularly excited about a sunrise hot air balloon flight!
I was amazed by the hot air balloon experience I had in Tanzania; it was incredible to see the landscape and wildlife from above. This time it will be a totally different landscape and views! While I don’t love heights, I love this experience which pushes me out of my comfort zone in a good way 🙂
Sailing the Nile
Having been on many river cruises in Europe, this will be my first ‘exotic’ location. I’m very interested in comparing the onboard experiences and being on the deck as we sail the Nile.
The ship will be gorgeous! You can see the Egyptian-inspired furniture throughout the cruise as a glorious draw to the heritage of the land, with perforated rattan screens to allow an interplay of light and shadow and give a soft, diffused glow to the surroundings.

💎 Hidden Gem Tip: Shopping in Local Markets
While I’m in Egypt, I look forward to wandering the markets (aka souks) and hunting for beautiful, locally-made souvenirs. When you do the same when traveling, be sure to have local currency on hand and know the local customs including about haggling. Your tour leader or hotel staff can guide you if you haven’t researched in advance.
Importantly, make sure to keep your cash and valuables in a neck wallet or somewhere very secure on your body in case of pick pockets.
Final tip – learn a few local phrases and enjoy the experience!
