I don’t know about you, but I usually feel pretty wiped out shortly after Christmas. Over the last few days, we enjoyed celebrations full of cheer and quality time with extended family, and I hope you did too. We even had some fun discussions about our travel plans for 2020 (Croatia, Greece, Italy, Israel, Nashville, the Grand Canyon, and Cabo Mexico included).
The Christmas frenzy is now behind us and in only four days, believe it or not, we’ll be ringing in a new year and decade. I find that there’s nothing like a quick getaway to reset my perspective on the challenges of daily life. It works like a charm every time.
If you’re pining for a quick getaway to relax and reconnect with your significant other, as a family, or even a small group of friends, I highly recommend Bermuda. Read on for inspiration….

Beyond-Beautiful Bermuda
If you need a mental break that’s doesn’t involve a long schlep and flight, I have the place for you. Just under two hours from New York City, Bermuda offers turquoise waters that shimmer and sparkle and powder-soft sand with a British flair. We recently enjoyed five sunshine-filled days with our home base at the Cambridge Beaches Resort and Spa, a Virtuoso preferred property (Virtuoso is the leading global network of agencies specializing in luxury and experiential travel). Because we booked through Hidden Gem Travel Consulting, a Virtuoso member agency, we were given an incredible upgrade upon arrival to a water view suite, enjoyed a sumptuous breakfast buffet daily (included), received a $100 resort credit and WIFI. This is NOT a multi-story, bustling hotel complex. Cambridge Beaches offers a collection of romantic, pink cottages set on a private 30-acre peninsula on the west end of the island with water views everywhere. We found the resort to be perfect for us: two waterside restaurants, adults mainly (minimum age is 13), three beyond gorgeous beaches, spa, putting green and infinity pool. Located on the south-western area of the island, it’s away from the crowds and ideal for relaxing and recharging.
Something for Everyone
Bermuda is breathtaking and has something for everyone – resorts, restaurants, and activities galore. Jobson’s Cove is magical and a mandatory stop for beach lovers. For the history buffs, the town of St. George is the former capital of Bermuda and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It has been meticulously preserved with quaint, narrow streets and alleyways. The National Museum of Bermuda in the Dockyard area exceeded our expectations. We loved learning about Bermuda’s 500-year history and many shipwrecks. For water sport enthusiasts, every activity imaginable is at your doorstep. Snorkeling, boating, fishing, parasailing, SUP – you name it. Golfers have plenty of choices and see the Hidden Gem Tip below about the best course in Bermuda. Foodies will relish in an abundance of fabulous restaurants all over the island! We were in full relaxation mode and had numerous delicious meals at Tamarisk right at the Cambridge Beaches Resort. At Breezes, also at Cambridge, you are treated to a table in the sand with your own Tiki torch during sunset. Cambridge Beaches is known for having the best sunset views in all of Bermuda.
Getting Around the Island
Getting around is a different experience – you can’t rent a car on Bermuda. However, you can take the buses and ferries, call a taxi, rent a scooter or bike or the most fun, use a Twizy for a day! A Twizy is a mini electric vehicle for two people that drives like a car and is safer to drive than a scooter. We took our eco-friendly Twizy along South Road making stops at the beaches, Elbow Beach Resort, Bermuda’s Botanical Gardens, Spittal Pond Wildlife Reserve and ending at the famous Swizzle Inn (motto: Swizzle Inn and Swagger Out) where we fortified ourselves with Bermuda’s two famous cocktails: The Rum Swizzle and Dark ‘n Stormy. Check out our Facebook page for a picture of the BEST frozen Dark ‘n Stormies https://www.facebook.com/hiddengemtravelconsulting/. I could use one now 😊.

Hidden Gem Tip: Golfers must include a round at the incredible Port Royal Golf Course. The signature hole is the scenic 16th situated precariously on a craggy cliff that overlooks the Atlantic Ocean. Cambridge has a relationship with the course due to its proximity, and we received an awesome discount on the round!
Warmly,
Susan
