Your Spring Break and Summer Vacation Inspiration

If you’re beginning to think about your upcoming spring and summer vacation plans, you’re not alone!  January is a huge month for planning travel, and believe it or not, January 28th is National Plan A Vacation Day!  If you have kids in school, planning well in advance is important to getting the best rates and availability.

We will be attending the New York Times Travel Show at the end of January at the Javits Center in New York City and excited to hear all about the latest travel trends and new itineraries!  The World Expo in Dubai will have a huge presence at the show.  Expo 2020 runs from October 2020 – April 2021, and a perfect time to go if Dubai is on your travel bucket list.  The Expo 2020 theme is “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future” with 190 countries will participating.  This trip is an extraordinary learning opportunity for families.  Note – Expo tickets are discounted by 50% for kids and students.

Is the Galapagos Islands on your radar?  There was much news coverage this week about Diego the 100+ year old, Espanola giant tortoise who has repopulated his species after it came close to extinction. One of the Hidden Gem team is there as I’m typing and just met Diego in person! Picture below and read on for more details….

Galapagos, Beach + European Vacation Ideas

The Galapagos Islands should be at the top of every nature-loving family’s travel list, and it’s a year-round destination.  It’s an experience that will not only be educational but a life-long memory for everyone in the family.  There are numerous ways to plan a trip to the Galapagos.  We work closely with Lindblad/NatGeo expedition cruises for our families, and the reviews are stellar.  In the next couple of months, we hope to have a representative from their company in Wilton, and you will be invited to that event.  You will be impressed!!

If a relaxing beach vacation is what you’re craving this year, Palace Resorts are perfect for families looking for an all-inclusive experience.  For example, The Grand at Moon Palace in Cancun offers golf, spa, water park and loads of activities and tours for everyone in the family, a perfect place for extended families who want to vacation together!  Even better – kids 17 and under stay free.  We have insider access to the Palace Resorts so reach out to learn more.

We are currently planning trips to Europe, and there are many options to consider.  To beat the crowds in the summer, we have on-site suppliers who can offer “skip the line” and behind the scenes tours.  You can choose a guided tour or independent travel where you have access to a local “concierge” to make your trip seamless.  We highly recommend Switzerland in the summer – the Alps, lakes and diverse cultures (French, German, Italian and Swiss) make this trip unique.  The efficient train system allows families to easily see the countryside.  We were there a couple of years ago and can help you plan the perfect itinerary.

Staying in the US is another popular option for spring and summer break.  Arizona doesn’t disappoint in any season.  We have spent considerable time in Arizona and can attest to the beauty of the desert beyond the Grand Canyon.  The Fairmont Scottsdale Princess is a fantastic resort for families, and we have personal connections with the management to ensure that your visit includes upgrades and amenities you can’t google.  Their Fourth of July celebration is not to be missed with a vintage air show, open-air concerts and of course fireworks! We love the gorgeous spa for some adult relaxation time. Consider adding a few days here onto a customized Grand Canyon/Sedona itinerary.

Hidden Gem TipReal ID takes effect on October 1, 2020 which means unless you have a verified driver’s license (has a yellow star on it in Connecticut – varies by state), you will need your passport or passport card to fly domestically for ages 18 and over.  We recommend upgrading your driver’s license as soon as possible.
